Taos Plaza and Kit Carson Park
This is an easy run that’s mostly flat and short. However, it’s a great opportunity to tour historic downtown Taos and its streets. It’s a great area for a quick run before sunrise and to see some sights before everyone wakes up.
Williams Lake Trail
This might be one of the most beautiful lakes and areas nearby where you can run. The trail begins in the Taos Ski Valley but is mostly part of the Carson National Forest. From the start of the trail, it’s a long run to the lake but very worth the 12-mile trip. Relax and enjoy the water and view once you get to the lake.
Red River Nature Trail
Another excellent trail that takes you through Carson National Forest is the Red River Nature Trail. This is a pretty easy trail to navigate. It’s a little more than three miles long–one way. There is some elevation, but it’s not too difficult to traverse.
Wheeler Peak East Approach Loop
This is another doozy trail, and it is also well worth the adventure. The Wheeler Peak East Approach Loop is a more than 14-mile-long loop. It’s a challenging path, but throughout your run, you will see three lakes, multiple waterfalls, and New Mexico’s highest peak.
